Happy Sustainability Day!

10-10-2017 -

Time to celebrate sustainability! The DuKo-committee in Utrecht introduces itself and tips their favorite sustainable products!

Natascha

Who are you?

Natascha (24), company coordinator in Utrecht.

Why are you a part of DuKo?

I think it is fun and important to help students to make more sustainable choices.

Which DuKo product do you recommend?

The ecoffee cup. It is a coffeecup with a cover, made from bamboo. You can buy it with 10% DuKo discount at WAAR and it is pretty, nice to drink from and very easy to clean. Also, it saves a lot of paper and plastic, especially in exam weeks!

Hanna

Who are you?

Hanna (21), new at DuKo for communication and promotion at study associations and external parties in Utrecht.

Why are you a part of DuKo?

I was looking for something to gain practical experience in the study field of my bachelor Global Sustainability Science.

Which DuKo product do you recommend?

I recommend MUD Jeans! It'll be an investment, but they are beautiful, durable and you're sure that they're free from child labor, made from organic cotton, and combat waste, since MUD Jeans strives to contribute to the circular economy. I bought mine online with €10 DuKo-discount, and there's also the possibility to lease the jeans with €7,50 DuKo-discount!

Heleen

Who are you?

Heleen (20). I recently joined DuKo as a communication and promotion committee member for Utrecht.

Why are you a part of DuKo?

I am studying governance for sustainable development, so I am learning/ reading and writing a lot about sustainability, and how we can integrate this in society. I think it is very important (and also fun) to pursuit this in daily life! Reading about sustainable development is different than actually trying to live more sustainable.

Which DuKo product do you recommend?

The fries at Dapp Frietwinkel! These are home-made fries made from organic potatoes. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays you get an upgrade to a large fries if you show your DuKo-app :) They also have a delicious goat cheese kroket. You can also try their special pumpkin ketchup!

Ratna

Who are you?

Ratna (26). Together with Laurens, Keiko and Marijn I've been with Duko since day 1. Together with them I'm part of the board of the foundation DuKo Student (the overarching DuKo organisation). I maintain the DuKo-brand and also help out in the Utrecht committee.

Why are you a part of DuKo?

Because I believe that with the products we buy we get to vote daily for the world we want to live in, which should be a sustainable one.

Which DuKo product do you recommend?

The stainless steel Klean Kanteen bottles! My 500ml classic version has been my best friend for 7 years: indestructable (see my dent collection), easy to clean, and it has already saved hundreds of single-use plastic bottles from production and from ending up as waste. This is has not only been better for the environment, but also for my wallet. Since a few years I'm also proud owner of a pink insulated version: good for juices and (iced) coffee and tea. You can buy these awesome bottles in all shapes, sizes and colors with 10% DuKo-discount at greenjump.nl.

Laurens

Who are you?

Laurens (26), secretary of the foundation DuKo Student and also an active member of the team in Utrecht. There I'm mainly concerned with making photos for the website and design of promo materials.

Why are you a part of DuKo?

Because I think it's important to show that you can use your wallet to decide which products a company does and doesn't offers.

Which DuKo product do you recommend?

Seepje laundry detergent! I think it is an excellent example of a great product that combines sustainability, innovation and social entrepreneurship: it washes your clothes spotless, is biobased, has packaging made of recycled plastic, and is packed in a sheltered workshop. You can buy Seepje with DuKo-discount at seepje.nl (-10%), WAAR (-10%) and Nukuhiva (-15%).
